La Universidad de Chile alcanzó las semifinales en la Liga Mundial Universitaria FISU 3×3 en Xiamen, China, instancia en la que cayó con el equipo que resultó campeón, y terminó en un histórico cuarto puesto.

El equipo conformado por Emiliano Márquez Dogliotti, Sebastián Silva Cerda, José Brahm y Jairo Zamorano, ya había conseguido el segundo puesto en el Panamericano FISU América 3×3 disputado en Argentina, lo que le había dado la clasificación para Xiamen 2017.

En la fase de grupos los chilenos sufrieron dos derrotas, ante Universidad de Kragujevac (Serbia) y frente a UNLaM (Argentina), reviviendo la final del Panamericano. Sin embargo, una victoria ante ISEG (Senegal) le dio la clasificación como mejor tercero.

En octavos de final, derrotaron a la Srinakharinwirot University (Tailandia), por 17-12, mostrando un gran rendimiento. No menos valioso fue lo conseguid en el cruce de cuartos de final, donde el cuadro azul se impuso por 17-14 a Universidad de Huaqiao (China), jugando su mejor partido en el torneo.

En semifinales, el equipo trasandino cayó 19-13 ante el Instituto Físico y Cultural “Mon-Altius” de Mongolia, equipo que ya había eliminado a Argentina en octavos de final y que terminó siendo el campeón del torneo.

Por el lado de las mujeres, ninguno de los equipos representantes del continente, Universidad Católica de Chile y Universidad Nacional de La Matanza (Argentina), pudo superar la instancia de octavos de final.[:en] 

The University of Chile reached the semi-finals at 3×3 FISU University World League in Xiamen, China, where they lost with the team that result champion, and finished in a historic fourth place.

The team integrated by Emiliano Márquez Dogliotti, Sebastián Silva Cerda, José Brahm and Jairo Zamorano, had already won second place in the 3×3 Pan American organized by FISU America, which had given the Xiamen 2017 qualification.

In group stage, the Chileans suffered two defeats, against University of Kragujevac (Serbia) and UNLaM (Argentina), reviving the Pan American 3×3 final. However, a victory against ISEG (Senegal) gave the qualification as best third.

In the round of 16, they defeated Srinakharinwirot University (Thailand), 17-12, showing exceptional performance. No less valuable was achieved in the quarter-final crossing, where the blue team won 17-14 at Huaqiao University (China), playing his best game in the tournament. In the semi-finals, the Chileans lost 19-13 with “Mon-Altius” Phisical Culture Institute Mongolia, a team that had already eliminated Argentina in the round of 16 and ended up being the tournament champion.

On women’s side, none of the teams representing the continent, Catholic University of Chile and National University of La Matanza (Argentina), could overcome the instance of the round of 16.[:]
