[:es]Con Canadá en mujeres, Argentina en varones y Costa Rica en el plantel de árbitros, representantes del continente americano estuvieron presentes en el Mundial Universitario de Futsal desarrollado del 19 al 26 de agosto en Almaty, Kazajistán.

Los dos equipos realizaron un buen torneo y se ganaron su boleto para estar presentes en el próximo Mundial, que tendrá lugar en Polonia en 2020.

Canadá finalizó sexta, tras derrotar a Nueva Zelanda 4-0 y perder 1-6 contra Polonia en el partido por el quinto lugar, en los últimos dos partidos disputados, después de clasificar en cuarto lugar de su grupo y caer en octavos de final ante Portugal, que ganó la medalla de bronce.

Argentina, en tanto, ocupó el séptimo lugar en el torneo, tras ganarle 8-1 a Polonia en su último partido. Había caído en cuartos de final ante el local Kazajistán, luego de una clasificación agónica en la fase de grupos. Además de la competencia, el seleccionado fue invitado por el Ministerio de Deportes de Kazajistán a compartir una actividad con niños huérfanos en una escuela de fútbol de un barrio humilde, en una experiencia inolvidable tanto para los estudiantes atletas como para los niños, que conocieron a estrellas de hoy y líderes del mañana.

Costa Rica también tuvo su representante: Yeraldín Araya Chaves. Se trata de la única árbitro FIFA de Futsal de ese país, y quien fue la primera mujer en ser árbitro FIFA por la Concacaf. De esta manera, sumó otra experiencia internacional, como las que ya tuvo en 2016 con el Premundial en La Habana, Cuba, y en 2017 con los Juegos Centroamericanos en Nicaragua.

Además, Brasil participó con un delegado técnico, y el Presidente de FISU América, Alim Maluf Neto, acompañó a los representantes del continente.

Costa Rica also had its representative: Yeraldín Araya Chaves. She is the only FIFA Futsal referee in that country, and was the first woman to be a FIFA referee for CONCACAF. In this way, she added another international experience, such as those she already had in 2016 with the Pre World Cup in La Havana, Cuba, and in 2017 with the Central America Games in Nicaragua.
